In the chemical and high-pressure gas storage and transportation industries, “safety” is not an abstract concept but a system that must be concretely implemented and operate around the clock. Liquid ammonia, in particular, is highly volatile and irritating, with inherent explosion risks. Any leakage during storage or transfer can cause serious injury to personnel and create incalculable impacts on the surrounding environment and operational continuity. Under these high-risk conditions, the launch of the liquid ammonia storage and transfer CCTV deployment at CGTDC Corporation represents a textbook example of moving from passive risk prevention toward real-time, visualized safety management.

Why High-Risk Gas Environments Demand Explosion-Proof Video Surveillance
Compared with general industrial sites, areas surrounding liquid ammonia storage tanks are clearly classified as hazardous zones. Equipment deployed in these environments must not only withstand weathering and corrosion, but also operate safely under conditions where explosive gases or dust may be present—without becoming an ignition source themselves. Even high-resolution cameras with advanced night vision are prohibited from deployment if they fail to meet explosion-proof requirements. As a result, explosion-proof certification is not an optional add-on but the primary threshold for surveillance systems in high-risk environments.

The solution adopted in this project places explosion-proof CCTV at its core. The objective extends beyond post-incident video review; through real-time monitoring, operators can continuously observe tank surroundings, personnel movement, and abnormal conditions, effectively shifting risk control upstream to the period before an incident occurs.

Deployment Focus: Three Explosion-Proof PTZ Cameras for Complete Situational Awareness
At the CGTDC Corporation site, three explosion-proof PTZ cameras were installed on existing structural columns, balancing optimal viewing height with seamless integration into the existing infrastructure. The choice of PTZ cameras allows each unit to cover a wide surveillance area. Through remote pan, tilt, and zoom control, operators can instantly focus on pipeline joints, valves, or active work zones, eliminating the limitations of fixed cameras that “see the area but miss the detail.”

In liquid ammonia transfer environments, this dynamic monitoring capability is particularly critical. Wind direction, weather conditions, and operational activities can all shift the location of potential risk. Only a system capable of adjusting viewpoints in real time can truly align with on-site operational realities.

XCUBE-PS-1000: An Industrial Explosion-Proof Pan-Tilt Platform Built for Extreme Conditions
A key enabler of this deployment is the XCUBE-PS-1000 explosion-proof pan-tilt housing. Its defining advantage lies in comprehensive certification rather than reliance on a single standard. The unit is certified to IECEx, ATEX, KCs, TIIS, and TS standards, making it suitable for both gas and dust hazardous environments. For multinational enterprises or facilities designed for long-term operation, this represents a one-time investment in globally compliant safety.

From a mechanical perspective, the XCUBE-PS-1000 employs a 100% gear-driven rotation mechanism. Compared with belt-driven or simplified structures, this design offers superior durability under continuous operation and environmental vibration—conditions commonly found in chemical and energy facilities. The enclosure is manufactured from electrolytically polished AISI 316L stainless steel using a weld-free lost-wax casting process, enhancing structural integrity while significantly reducing corrosion risks associated with aging weld points.

Designed for Long-Term Stability in Harsh Environments
In high-risk facilities, equipment that merely “functions” is insufficient; long-term stability is the true benchmark. The XCUBE-PS-1000 is engineered for corrosion resistance, chemical exposure, and salt-laden environments. Whether facing liquid ammonia, coastal climates, or high humidity, it maintains structural and sealing integrity. With an IP66 protection rating, it effectively prevents dust ingress and resists high-pressure water jets, making it particularly suitable for outdoor or semi-open storage tank areas. A wide operating temperature range from –40°C to +67°C ensures uninterrupted surveillance under extreme cold or heat.

Precision PTZ Control That Makes Surveillance Actionable
Operationally, the system supports unlimited 360-degree panning and ±90-degree tilt, with adjustable speeds ranging from an ultra-slow 0.025°/s to a rapid 120°/s. This flexibility enables operators to conduct precise, slow tracking when needed or rapidly shift viewpoints to gain situational awareness. As a result, the explosion-proof CCTV system evolves beyond a passive recording device into an active tool supporting inspections, anomaly verification, and early-stage incident response.

The CGTDC Corporation liquid ammonia CCTV deployment highlights a fundamental shift in safety philosophy within high-risk industries. Explosion-proof cameras are no longer merely a regulatory checkbox; they are a critical component of an integrated safety management framework. By combining highly reliable explosion-proof PTZ cameras with industrial-grade mechanical design, hazardous areas that cannot be continuously staffed are transformed into spaces that are visually accessible, analytically traceable, and decision-ready—capturing the true value of modern industrial security systems.
